NexGen Energy (TSX: NXE) has seen the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment approve a site program for the continued improvement of the Rook I property. The site program is part of an effort to improve facilities for the continued exploration of NexGen’s expansive land package in the region.
The program will see a number of upgrades completed on site, chief among which is the establishment of a temporary exploration airstrip, the expansion of on-site accommodations, and site access road improvements.
The temporary airstrip, which is to be under 1,000 metres in length, is being installed in an effort to enhance the health and safety of workers and accommodate an increase of exploration workers on site. The airstrip will enable a reduction of vehicular transport to site, while augmenting emergency response capabilities.
In a similar vein, road improvements are planned for a total of 13 kilometres of access roads to the Rook I project. Improvements are said to include a widening of the road surface to allow for two-way traffic, along with enhancing the road base to support more frequent traffic for the purpose of supply deliveries and specialized exploration equipment.
Exploration camp facilities are also set to improve, with the installation of hard-walled modular facilities that accommodate a total of 373 additional beds planned. The expansion is said to be required for NexGen’s growing technical teams and specialized personnel as exploration intensifies.
“The 2025 Site Program marks an exciting strategic milestone for our current and future activities, with key infrastructure improvements that will optimize safety, environmental protection, and efficiency for our people and our programs. These infrastructure enhancements create the conditions for a high-performing operational platform capable of fully evaluating the significant resource potential across our Rook I Property,” commented Leigh Curyer, CEO of NexGen.
The effort behind the major site improvements follow the discovery of high grade basement hosted mineralization at Patterson Corridor East, which was discovered just 3.5 kilometers to the east of the Arrow deposit at the Rook I Property. The discovery is said to warrant the infrastructure improvements, with site activity expected to begin in the coming weeks. Camp commissioning is currently scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The balance of exploratory drilling at PCE is expected to recommence later this month, with planning said to already be underway for future programs at the discovery.
“The Rook I Project is one of the most significant projects across the country and we are keen to see it prioritized by the Government of Canada accordingly. Our government is proud to approve these infrastructure activities which are well within our jurisdiction and that are scheduled to commence imminently. NexGen is an example of strategically delivering a generational opportunity for Saskatchewan to become the world’s leader in the mining of uranium, and I look forward to working with newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney to expedite the final Federal approval of this generational opportunity for Saskatchewan and Canada,” commented Premier of Saskatchewan Scott Moe on the development.
NexGen Energy last traded at $9.08 on the TSX.
