I watched CTV Evening News FOR Lisa Laflamme’s coverage even prior to her role as chief news anchor and senior editor. I have nothing but respect for Sandie Rinaldo & Omar Sachedina, HOWEVER Lisa is in a class of her own, particularly if one considers the impressive number of awards she has received. I thought her decision to go ‘grey’ during COVID was a genius move that echoed the actions of a lot of other women and was a visual statement to everyone that during troubled times you have to adapt. It didn’t age her, if anything she was more striking. And with the unrest created by Russia’s aggression, she didn’t stay comfortably in the studio, she went out in the field as she had so often in the past. I appreciated the quality of Lloyd Robertson’s work that was constant up to his retirement at 77 when Ms Laflamme replaced him. Clearly Mr. Robertson carried on to his ‘advanced grey age’ because he had the respect and support of CTV’s brass. It is therefore interesting that Mr. Robertson has spoken out in support of his successor and of her integrity, while their previous employer has treated her disrespectfully, abominably and unacceptably. What has changed in the mindset of CTV brass that justified Ms. Laflamme’s unceremonious ouster in her prime at 58 after 35 years of exceptional service?
When nasty twisted twits have taken the reins, it’s time for viewers like me to adapt and dismount. I will now get my news from CBC, Global and Radio-Canada. Goodbye CTV.
