Much to the disappointment of many stoners across Canada, Nestlé will be discontinuing its frozen meals and pizza business — including Delissio — over the next six months. 

According to a statement released by the food and beverage giant, the decision aligns with the company’s strategy to focus on categories that will support long-term growth and allow for reinvestment in other product lines, particularly confectionary, coffee, ice cream, premium water, and pet food.

Apart from Delissio, the products affected by this decision include Stouffer’s, Lean Cuisine, and Life Cuisine. Nestlé Canada doesn’t manufacture these products locally, so no factories will be affected by their exit.

Sylvain Charlebois, a food policy professor at Dalhousie University in Halifax, told City News that Nestlé’s decision could leave “a void in the freezer aisle.”

“It will be difficult for other (consumer packaged goods) companies to pick up the slack that quickly,” he added, citing labor shortages, and the time it takes to expand capacity or build a new plant to grow production or develop new products as hurdles for other companies to fill the void right away.

Canadians, meanwhile, are understandably upset, with one Twitter user even harkening back to Nestlé’s groundwater issue, just to keep Delissio.
