Canopy Growth Very Quietly Released A Weed-Growing Game

A Twitter user recently discovered a “Zelda-type” 2D weed-growing game from following QR codes printed on Canopy Growth’s (TSX: WEED) Tweed merch. As it turns out, the game is part of a raffle contest that’s been running since February 14. The contest officially ends on April 21, 2022.

Sponsored by brand owner Canopy Growth Corporation (TSX: WEED), the Tweed Grow To Win game lets you “grow” your own strain by performing a series of tasks like giving it light, water, or nutrition, as well as trimming and harvesting. As you go through the game, you spin a prize wheel and get a chance to win an instant prize or be included in the draw for the weekly prizes.

The Tweed brand launched a new look and feel, along with a revitalized product lineup and new product formats in late January. The game could be part of the marketing for the new branding, although there hasn’t been any mention of the contest on the brand’s social media.

Unrelatedly, Canopy Growth has had a bad start to 2022 thus far, having been recently removed from the S&P/TSX 60 index, while the firm also continues to see its cannabis revenue slide globally. The index constitutes the top 60 biggest and most liquid equities within the Canadian capital markets. The latest marketing campaign appears to be an attempt to turn around its performance by bringing in new consumer engagement that with any luck, will translate to more sales.
