Diddy’s Empower Global Hemorrhages Brands Amid Scandal

At least 18 brands have cut ties with the e-commerce platform Empower Global amid the growing controversy surrounding its owner Sean “Diddy” Combs. The platform, which promotes Black-owned businesses, has suffered a significant setback as notable partners such as Tsuri, Nuudii System, No One Clothiers, Fulaba, and House of Takura have departed.

Annette Njau of House of Takura told Rolling Stone that her company left the platform the day Combs’ former girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against him. Njau said that the allegations against Combs were “abhorrent and intolerable” and that her company believes in supporting victims. No One Clothiers also expressed difficulty in the decision, but ultimately felt it was the “correct choice” given the “reverence” they once held for Combs.

Skincare brand Tsuri and shoe brand Rebecca Allen both emphasized their commitment to gender equality and dignity as factors in their exits. Allen noted that while they had enjoyed working with Empower Global, they had already planned to end the relationship due to a lack of meaningful sales, and the “harrowing allegations” expedited their decision.

Combs has denied the accusations of sexual assault, trafficking, and abuse leveled against him by Ventura and three other women in separate lawsuits. He has vowed to defend his name and legacy, which he believes are being systematically attacked.

The controversy earlier led Combs to temporarily step down as co-chair of his media company Revolt in November. In March, TMZ reported that he had sold all his shares of the company to an unnamed new owner.

This was around the same time that federal agents executed search warrants at Combs’ homes in Miami and Los Angeles as part of a probe into allegations ranging from sex trafficking to the solicitation of narcotics and firearms.
