Elon Musk Unveils xAI, His Answer to the ChatGPT AI Revolution
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk is aiming to challenge major tech companies with his own alternative to ChatGPT, called xAI. The team behind the new startup is composed of engineers from Google, DeepMind, and Microsoft, including Igor Babuschkin, Tony Wu, Christian Szegedy, and Greg Yang.
Musk has previously expressed concerns about the pace of AI development and the need for regulation in the sector; however, that didn’t stop him from creating the new venture — registered as X.AI Corp — that he registered in Nevada in March. It will be overseen by Musk as the sole director, with the managing director of Musk’s family office, Jared Birchall, serving as a secretary.
The firm plans to rival Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing AI with a “maximum truth-seeking AI”, which Musk suggested might be called TruthGPT. This move comes in the wake of the recent attention to generative AI following the successful launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing AI.
