Hertz Energy Inc. (CSE: HZ) has officially announced the commencement of its exploration programs at the Harriman Antimony Property in the Gaspé Region of Québec. The project, which spans approximately 2,500 hectares and consists of 49 mineral claims, is positioned strategically at a site with a history of valuable mineral deposits.
The Harriman Property is located approximately 17 kilometers northeast of New Richmond in Québec’s Gaspé Region, an area well-known for its mineral wealth. The Gaspé Region has been home to notable mineral projects, including Osisko Metals’ Mine Gaspé Copper Mine, highlighting the area’s significance as a resource hub.
One of the key features of the property is its location at the intersection of two major geological fault lines—the Restigouche Fault and the Grand Pabos Fault. These structures host several mineral showings, primarily of antimony (Sb) and gold (Au). Antimony, in particular, has been designated a critical mineral by the U.S. and Canadian governments due to its essential role in various industrial applications, including flame retardants and batteries.
The history of the Harriman Property reveals encouraging signs of its mineral potential. Hertz Energy based the project on historical data compiled from Québec’s geoscientific database, SIGÉOM. A review of the database uncovered four antimony showings along a northeast-trending fault structure, a geological feature that often serves as a conduit for mineral-rich fluids.
Among the most promising showings, historical grab samples have yielded high concentrations of antimony and gold. The Harriman-4 Sud showing returned an impressive 15.35% antimony and 0.07 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a grab sample of a stibnite vein. Additionally, the nearby Harriman Gold occurrence, located just 300 meters away, returned a 22.4 g/t gold assay, further underscoring the site’s potential for valuable mineral deposits.
According to the company, the focus will initially be on areas of favorable geology surrounding historical showings while also scouting for new antimony and gold deposits. This phase of the program, set to begin in mid-September 2024, marks the first systematic exploration effort on the property.
“Our goal is to unlock the full potential of the Harriman Property through targeted exploration efforts. The historical data is promising, but the lack of previous drilling presents an exciting opportunity to make significant discoveries,” a company spokesperson stated.
By focusing on the zones with the highest mineral showings and expanding into less explored areas, Hertz aims to gather valuable geological information that could lead to future development and extraction activities.
Hertz Energy last traded at $0.080 on the CSE.
