It’s Finally Here! Twitter Launches Edit Button

After more than 15 years, Twitter users will no longer have to worry about ill-fated auto-correct slip-ups or grammar mistakes! The social media giant finally unveiled one of its most requested features— an edit button!

Later this month, certain Twitter Blue accounts will have access to the Edit Tweet feature, where they have up to 30 minutes to alter their original work, after which a timestamp label will appear to show fellow followers there was a modification. Twitter Blue is currently only available in Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand, and subscribers already have access to an Undo Tweet button that gives account holders 30 seconds to cancel an errored Tweet they were in the midst of posting. Twitter said that feature would remain active until the Edit Tweet button is officially launched.

The social media company first announced such a feature was en route back in April, and now will gather feedback from the select group of paid users to fine-tune the edit button’s functionality. “With Edit Tweet, we’re hoping to make Tweeting easier and more approachable, giving people more choice and control in how they express themselves and how they contribute to the many conversations happening on Twitter,” the social media giant said in a blog post. “Since this is our most requested feature to date, we want to make sure we get it right.”

Since Twitter first made its debut back in 2006, its functionality was pretty basic: users had 140 characters to compose their tweet (this was later upgraded to 280 characters in 2017), and after they hit the post button— there was no turning back! Twitter said the new feature will eventually be available to all users, but the company failed to specify a timeline. Nonetheless, those prone to pesky errors will be able to sigh a breathe of relief and eventually save themselves from perhaps a little bit of embarrassment.
