Poilievre Loses Seventh Caucus Member as Brock Exits for Crown Attorney’s Office

Conservative MP Larry Brock will step down from the House of Commons on September 18, leaving Parliament to return to prosecuting criminal cases in Brantford, Ontario.

Brock posted the decision to social media the evening of August 6, hours after the Globe and Mail reported his departure was coming, citing unnamed sources. He hadn’t returned the paper’s calls before publishing his own statement.

Brock said he accepted a position at the Brantford Crown Attorney’s office, calling it a return to “the frontlines of justice.” He worked as a prosecutor in the area before entering politics and said his commitment to community safety hasn’t changed.

Voters first elected Brock in 2021 and reelected him in 2025 with 52% of the vote in the redrawn riding of Brantford-Brant South-Six Nations, a seat Conservatives have held since 2008. He served as the party’s shadow minister of justice until Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre removed him from the role in June.

Brock is the seventh MP to leave Poilievre’s caucus since last year’s election. Chris d’Entremont, Michael Ma, Matt Jeneroux and Marilyn Gladu left to join Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals; Saskatchewan’s Cathay Wagantall reversed plans to serve out her term and will resign by the end of August; and Carney appointed Quebec’s Richard Martel to the Senate in July, triggering a byelection in his old riding of Chicoutimi-Le Fjord later this month.

Brock, unlike four of those colleagues, is leaving politics altogether instead of switching parties. His exit triggers a byelection in Brantford-Brant South-Six Nations, a riding 338Canada rates as leaning Conservative.
