Rockland Resources To Begin Exploring Elektra Lithium Project This Month

Rockland Resources (CSE: RKL) is set to soon begin exploration on its recently acquired Elektra claystone lithium project in Sonora, Mexico. The firm this morning indicated it has now obtained surface access to the property.

With the receipt of surface access, the company is prepared to move forward with a planned exploration program on the property. “With work permits in place and now surface access secured we are excited to move ahead on the Elektra Claystone Lithium Project in Mexico,” commented CEO Mike England on the development.

The property is significant in that it is contiguous with the Sonora Lithium Project, currently being jointly developed by Ganfeng Lithium and Bacanora Lithium. That property is valuable enough that in mid 2021, Bacanora accepted a $391 million takeover offer from Gangfeng, to enable the latter to take full control of the project.

Elektra itself is comprised of a total of 41,818 hectares of property, and is contiguous to the north and south of the Sonora property, and more importantly, is said to be on-trend with mineralized lithium-bearing claystone. The Agua Fria prospect, initially identified in 2016 via drilling, is said to demonstrate similar mineralization as that found at the La Ventana Zone at the Sonora property.

Historic drilling on the property has been limited, with a 16 hole program last conducted in 2017 on the property over a total of 1,762 metres. Highlights from that program include several intervals beyond 900 ppm of lithium, with widths extending up to 90 metres long. The strongest result reportedly had 33 metres of 1,058 ppm lithium, and 21 metres of 1,043 ppm lithium. Additional targets on the property remain that have yet to be drill tested.

Exploration is set to begin this month on the property, with a team currently being put in place to compile historic data on the property and to define a sufficient exploration plan.

Rockland Resources last traded at $0.22 on the CSE.
