Selena Gomez Sued By Startup Investors For Fraud

  • The lawsuit puts a price on celebrity influence itself, alleging Gomez’s enormous audience was not merely promotional upside but a core part of the investment case presented to Wondermind’s backers.

Selena Gomez’s social-media reach was supposed to be one of Wondermind Global’s biggest business assets. Five investors now allege that the celebrity involvement they relied on when putting nearly $1.2 million into the mental-health startup never materialized as promised.

The investors, represented through Wondermind SRS 44 and Bespoke Wondermind SPV I, filed a federal lawsuit in Delaware on Thursday against Wondermind, Gomez, her mother and co-founder Mandy Teefey, and former co-founder Daniella Pierson. The complaint alleges securities fraud, other fraud claims, and contractual violations.

According to Reuters, investors were told Gomez would actively help build Wondermind as its head of marketing, leveraging an audience exceeding 500 million followers across social media. The lawsuit alleges she entered into contractual obligations connected with that role but failed to perform them.

The plaintiffs allege Wondermind also represented that major revenue initiatives were underway, including advertising agreements, celebrity content, institutional partnerships, and a mobile application intended to become a centerpiece of the company. They claim partnerships identified with JPMorgan and Fidelity did not exist as represented and that the app was never built.

Wondermind raised $5 million in 2022. Contemporary reports placed the startup’s valuation at approximately $100 million following the financing. The plaintiffs’ roughly $1.2 million investment formed part of that round, according to current reporting.

The investors allege they remained unaware of significant operational and financial problems until a September 2025 investigation by The Cut. They later sought to rescind their investments in November 2025, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit seeks repayment of the investments, damages, attorneys’ fees, and a jury trial.

Gomez had not responded publicly to the claims as of the latest reports reviewed. Pierson has denied the allegations against her and said documentation and financial records would support her position.
