Tall Tale: Ron DeSantis Defends His ‘Bootsy’ Image Amid Height Rumors

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was put in another awkward situation when he faced questions about persistent rumors regarding his choice…of footwear in an appearance DeSantis on the PBD Podcast, hosted by Patrick Bet-David.

The rumors, which have persisted for a while, suggest that DeSantis wears hidden lifts in his boots to appear taller. The claim has gained more attention online recently, and it’s become one of the ways the former president and GOP nominee front-runner Donald Trump has made fun of DeSantis. (P.S. Bet-David is a known Trump loyalist.)

Bet-David presented images from DeSantis’ recent appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, which have gone viral, showcasing the governor’s cowboy boots. Some online speculators have added outlines to these images, insinuating that hidden high heels may have been inserted into the boots to enhance DeSantis’ height.

DeSantis was quick to deny the allegations, asserting that his boots were “standard, off-the-rack Lucchese boots.” Bet-David also asked DeSantis about his height, to which the embattled governor and presidential hopeful responded by saying he is 5 feet, 11 inches.

“Why don’t you wear tennis shoes and dress shoes?” Bet-David followed up.

“I do wear tennis shoes when I work out,” DeSantis said.

The interview took a more awkward turn when Bet-David attempted to gift the governor a pair of Ferragamo shoes, which DeSantis declined, citing his policy of not accepting gifts.

DeSantis downplayed the significance of such discussions about his attire, attributing it to the nature of politics.

He compared the situation to the criticism received by baseball legend Yogi Berra, who was once told he didn’t look like a typical New York Yankees player. According to DeSantis, Berra’s response was, “you don’t hit a baseball with your face.”
