Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) announced today a recall of nearly 46,000 Cybertruck vehicles in the United States due to a potential safety hazard involving detachable exterior panels. The recall affects all Cybertrucks manufactured from November 2023 through February 27, 2025, representing the majority of these vehicles on American roads.
The issue stems from a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, known as the cant rail, which may detach from the vehicle while in motion. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notified Tesla of the issue on February 21, 2025, following a vehicle owner’s report of a detached rail panel. Tesla has since identified 151 warranty claims potentially related to this problem, although no collisions or injuries have been reported.
