Turkish Minister Suffers Heart Attack While Condemning Israel

Turkish Member of Parliament Hasan Bitmez collapsed during a session at the Grand Assembly of the Turkish National Assembly on Tuesday, suffering an apparent heart attack.

The incident occurred while Bitmez, a member of the Felicity (Saadet) Party, was condemning Israel’s attacks on Gaza. The 54-year-old politician proclaimed, “You will not escape the wrath of Allah,” moments before fainting and hitting his head on the floor.

Emergency medical intervention ensued as onlookers rushed to assist Bitmez. Reports suggest a cardiac event that required life-saving measures. He was transferred to a local hospital by ambulance.

Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca stated that Bitmez “fell ill during his speech” and that “the General Assembly Health Team intervened and started cardiac massage.” He was later brought to the Ankara Bilkent City Hospital for an immediate angiography. Koca added that Bitmez was later “put on a heart-lung pump and taken to intensive care.”
