Waymo Partners With Geely’s Zeekr For Electric Ride-Hailing Autonomous Fleet

Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) self-driving platform Waymo is partnering with Chinese automaker Geely’s electric car brand Zeekr. The collaboration is set to develop an all-electric fleet in the Waymo One autonomous ride-hailing service in the United States.

“By becoming a strategic partner and vehicle supplier to the Waymo One fleet, we will be able to share our experience, ideals and provide our expertise in collaborating on a fully electric vehicle that fits Waymo’s requirements for this rapidly expanding segment in the global market for sustainable travel,” said Zeekr Technology CEO Andy An.

The vehicle model is being designed at China Europe Vehicle Technology Centre, Zeekr’s facility in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is expected to be developed “on a new proprietary and open-source mobility architecture” while Waymo will handle shipping the units to the US to integrate within its fully autonomous ride-hailing platform.

The new Zeekr vehicle is expected to come with a “fully configurable cabin, both with and without driver controls” to make the service tailored to the rider’s requirements.

Founded in 2021, Zeekr introduced its first model in April and started its deliveries in October.
