A Grunt, Not A Snore: Mark Zuckerberg Fights Claims That He Was Choked Out At A Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Tournament

Representatives for Meta Platforms (Nasdaq: META) boss Mark Zuckerberg want to clarify that he did not pass out in a choke hold at a Jiu-jitsu tournament, contrary to what The New York Times earlier reported.

Okay, but wait what? Zuckerberg…and Jiu-jitsu? In case it matters to you, the Facebook chief apparently got into the Brazilian grappling-based martial art during the pandemic and has even begun competing.

And as the Times reports, Zuckerberg competed for the first time on May 6 at an event in Woodside, California, “where he defeated an Uber engineer and won two medals, and lost consciousness.”

According to the paper, José Lucas Costa da Silva, a veteran fighter who refereed one of his matches, said he had to end a bout “after he heard Mr. Zuckerberg start to snore, a sign of someone who has passed out in a choke hold.”

But, according to the man himself in an email to the Times, “That never happened.” Jiu-jitsuberg and his coach Dave Camarillo insisted that what da Silva thought was snoring was really “effortful grunting.”

Good for you, Zuck!

Also, he’s ripped now. Here’s to hoping that the Metaverse booster isn’t missing his leg days.
