Aztec Minerals Begins 2023 Program At Cervantes Gold-Copper Project

Exploration is now underway at Aztec Minerals’ (TSXV: AZT) Cervantes project in Sonora, Mexico. The firm this morning indicated that two field crews have been mobilized to site.

The field crews are said to have been mobilized in February, with the teams focused on conducting surface exploration across the gold-copper property. Current tasks included under the program include soil, road cut, and reconnaissance outcrop sampling, along with Terraspec SWIR data collection and geological mapping.

The company currently intends to collect over 1,300 geochemical samples to gain a better understanding of the mineralization present at the property. Reconnaissance surface work is targeted to be completed on the California Northe, Estrella, Jasper, Jacobo, Brazil, El Indio, Purisima and La Verde targets, while mapping is to be focused on the California target.

Aztec’s primary objective of the exploration program is to continue to define the open pit heap leach gold potential of the California target, while testing for extensions of the California North target and the down-dip extensions of known mineralization for deeper copper-gold porphyry sulfide mineralization.

The company previously highlighted that it will be conducting a 26-hole drill program at the Cervantes property in 2023 as part of a two phase exploration program. Drilling is scheduled to take place in the second quarter, and is estimated to run through to mid-June to avoid drilling during the rainy season. Drilling is slated to focus on connecting the California and California North targets, while expanding the California target in all directions.
