Prime Minister Mark Carney met with business leaders from 23 Canadian companies Monday to discuss the trade relationship with the United States.
According to the PMO, the discussion centered on where trade talks currently stand and the government’s push to attract growth and investment at home. The PMO asked companies in the room to weigh in with perspectives from their own industries, though it didn’t say what resulted from the conversation.
RBC, Enbridge, Bell, Bombardier, CN Rail, Suncor, and Nutrien were among the 23 companies the PMO named as attendees, a group spanning banking, energy, rail, telecommunications, and agriculture.

That same day, Carney appointed Dominic Barton to chair Invest in Canada, the agency responsible for drawing foreign investment into the country, succeeding outgoing chief executive Laurel Broten, who previously served in Ontario’s provincial cabinet.

The meeting came a day after President Trump told Canadian firms doing business with America to relocate south of the border “immediately.”
