Donald Trump Expresses Reluctance to Declassify Epstein Files: “Phony Stuff”

Former President Donald Trump has voiced his hesitation to declassify the Jeffrey Epstein files, raising concerns about potential false information contained within them. This stance has ignited a wave of criticism and speculation, with some suggesting that Trump’s name might appear in the files, potentially implicating him in the notorious Epstein scandal.

During a recent interview, Trump was asked if he would declassify various sensitive documents, including those related to the 9/11 attacks and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. When the topic turned to the Epstein files, Trump’s response was notably cautious.

“Yeah, yeah, I would [declassify]. Alright. I guess I would,” he said, before adding, “I think that less so because, you know, you don’t know, you don’t want to affect people’s lives if it’s phony stuff in there because there’s a lot of phony stuff with that whole world. But I think I would” .

Trump’s reluctance has led to widespread speculation regarding the reasons behind it. Critics argue that his hesitancy might indicate a desire to protect himself from potential revelations within the files. Jeffrey Epstein, a financier and convicted sex offender, had a history of high-profile associations, including with Trump, which has fueled public interest in the contents of the files.

The non-profit organization MeidasTouch, which often criticizes Trump, shared the interview clip, highlighting the moment Trump hesitated. Their tweet read: “Wow. Listen to the absolute fear and panic Trump has when asked if he’d declassify the Epstein files”. This sentiment echoes the concerns of many who suspect that the files could contain damaging information about powerful individuals.

Adding to the controversy, legal experts and transparency advocates have called for the declassification of the Epstein files to ensure accountability and justice for Epstein’s victims. They argue that the public has a right to know the full extent of Epstein’s activities and associations.

The Epstein files have long been a topic of intense public interest and conspiracy theories. Epstein’s arrest in 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking minors, followed by his controversial death in a New York City jail, only heightened scrutiny on his connections to influential figures across various sectors, including politics, finance, and entertainment.

Trump’s past associations with Epstein are well-documented, though Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing. In a 2019 interview, Trump stated, “I knew him like everybody in Palm Beach knew him. He was a fixture in Palm Beach. I had a falling out with him a long time ago. I don’t think I’ve spoken to him for 15 years. I wasn’t a fan.”

The development comes after Trump was found guilty on Thursday by a New York jury of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment made to silence a porn star ahead of the 2016 presidential election. The verdict, delivered after two days of deliberations, marks Trump as the first U.S. president ever convicted of a crime.
