Facebook Tests Monthly Link Posting Limit, Requires $14.99 Subscription for Unlimited Access

Facebook will charge creators and businesses $14.99 monthly to post more than two external links under a new test that places basic platform features behind a paywall.

Meta (Nasdaq: META) now limits these accounts to two external link posts each month unless users pay for Meta Verified subscriptions. The service costs $11.99 monthly through web browsers or $14.99 via mobile applications.

The company describes the measure as an experiment to assess subscriber value. A Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch the test examines “whether the ability to publish an increased volume of posts with links adds additional value for Meta Verified subscribers.”

Users first encountered the restrictions on December 16. The limits apply to professional mode accounts and Facebook Pages but do not affect publishers, Meta said.

The restrictions target standard link posts to external websites and platforms. Users retain unlimited posting ability for affiliate links, comment links, and connections to other Meta-owned services including Instagram and WhatsApp.

The company’s third-quarter transparency report found that posts without links generate more than 98% of all feed views among United States users. Among the small fraction of link-based posts users do see, most direct to pages they already follow rather than friend recommendations or group shares.

Meta has not disclosed how long the experiment will continue or whether permanent implementation will follow.

Facebook’s professional mode converts standard user profiles into creator accounts, expanding content reach across the platform’s recommendation systems.
