Former UFC Star McGregor Announces Irish Presidential Bid

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor declared his candidacy for Ireland’s presidency on Thursday, building his platform on opposition to European Union immigration policies.

“Any other Presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will!” McGregor wrote to his Instagram followers after announcing his bid to run in the election, which must be held by November.

The MMA star promised to challenge EU migration regulations aimed at distributing asylum seeker processing across member states. If elected, McGregor pledged to hold a national referendum on the issue.

His announcement follows a controversial White House visit on St. Patrick’s Day, where he met with US President Donald Trump. Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin subsequently criticized McGregor’s statements as inconsistent with Irish values.

McGregor, who has pivoted to politics after stepping away from fighting, has claimed Ireland risks “losing its Irishness” and that rural communities have been “abandoned” by the current government.

Ireland recorded its highest immigration levels in 16 years in 2023, with government statistics showing 141,600 new arrivals in a nation of 5 million.

McGregor has previously aligned with anti-immigration protests and has faced legal troubles, including a civil case that resulted in a substantial damages award last year, which he is appealing.

However, his announcement doesn’t mean he’ll be able to run for the country’s top office. According to Ireland’s electoral commission, presidential candidates need to be nominated either by “at least 20 members of the Oireachtas (this means TDs or Senators)” or at least four local counties or city councils.

The citizens carry resoonsibility as well. We have sat back and lost control of our country by being politically correct. Yes maybe Quebec played a good game as others but we the people failed by not showing to politicians what we the citizens who vote want or need, so hence the current mess.
High taxes, poor immigration planning which includes quality people that support the country rather than being poor unable to speak either language and created the modern ghetto like Brampton where there is NO canadian rule and Canadians are leaving. Poor border control, easy access to Canada using fraudulent documents. Visa approvals being allowed to collapse.
    What number are unaccounted for?
Then our failure to allow incompitent government who do not see the trap of their own making… Political correctness. I am an older immigrant and have watched the decline of Canada under the Trudeaus, Mulrooney and watched our demise till we must allow visitors in to support our schools and Univarsities, but all failed to realise the risks of over population on the system. So maybe Canada has finally wakened up. Much as we may not appreciate the tarrifs etc it did wake us up and maybe as voters it is the time to demand action from all levels of government. Canada belongs to its citizens and not a few self serving political parties. Maybe it is time to change further ? Modernjnise our laws party rules and have an independent vote for our PM?

Good for Conor….same mess here in Canada and NO party, NO leader will touch the issues…51st state please. Canada = liberals masquerading as conservatives and the rest, communists masquerading as liberals. Welcome to commie Canada…they are all a disgrace. WE are not voting, we have no-one to vote for. STOP ALL immigration now. Canada, is a mess, but why? Who took control of the country? quebec $ Divide and conquer. The commie – fascist charter was forced upon the country by quebec. kebec has robbed the country blind since 1982 = charter. 10s of billions stolen out of Ottawa and funneled into quebec and other metis – franco towns and companies, all across the country yearly…all disguised as grants, subsides, equalization, transfers, bilingualism – only outside quebec (code for french) while kebec bans our language = bills 22, 178, 101…96. All ‘legal theft’, change the laws, steal more money. Liberals and ‘Conservatives’. Most have no idea what happened to this country when quebec, Trudeau 1, Lalonde… took over Ottawa = corruption, fraud, money laundering, every day = government…’french power’ in all provinces. They are revising, eliminating our BNA history all over the country as they rename all things English, Scottish, Irish…..Most have no idea who took control of the country and what has been done to us over the last 60 years, thanks to proud communist Trudeau #1, and his crooked, corrupt quebec metis (they are not french) cronies. Until we repeal, eliminate the expensive laws/departments – the charter = equalization (theft for kebec $), bilingualism (code for french) only outside kebec, multiculturalism – only outside kebec, a dreadful immigration policy, kebec dairy cartel, hydro scam…the damage will continue, and ‘Con’ PP will not touch any of these issues. Equalization Program became entrenched in his charter = Trudeau constitution of 1982. Since then, 24 years of Liberal governments have made things worse. 18 years of ‘Con’ governments, same thing. “First Quebec, and Ottawa and then the entire country…” ‘French power…’ PET. kebec runs it all $
