IAMGOLD Sees Fatality Occur At Essakane Operation
IAMGOLD (TSX: IMG) has lost an employee at its Essakane mine, found in Burkina Faso, following an off-site accident that occurred earlier this week. The employee reportedly passed away on Tuesday from injuries sustained.
The death of the employee reportedly occurred during the hoisting of mobile equipment, with further details not released. The company is reportedly conducting an investigation into the matter.
The incident follows a series of security events that occurred late last year at the mine, when convoys of employees being transported to the mine were attacked. The first incident, which occurred in September, resulted in a police officer sustaining injuries. The second, which occurred a month later, saw three buses attacked and two individuals go missing, who were located safely days later.
