Mike Lynch’s Autonomy Co-Defendant Dies After Being Hit By Car

Stephen Chamberlain, former co-defendant of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch in a high-profile US fraud trial, has died after being struck by a car while jogging in Cambridgeshire, UK. The incident occurred just days before Lynch himself was reported missing after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily.

Chamberlain, who served as vice-president of finance at Autonomy, the software company founded by Lynch, was hit by a vehicle on Saturday morning. His lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, confirmed the fatality, describing Chamberlain as “a courageous man with unparalleled integrity”.

The accident came amid a series of unfortunate events surrounding Lynch. On Monday, the tech mogul was among six people, including his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, reported missing after their yacht capsized during a violent storm near Palermo. One person, believed to be the yacht’s chef, has been confirmed dead.

Lynch and Chamberlain were co-defendants in a US fraud trial related to Hewlett-Packard’s $11 billion acquisition of Autonomy in 2011. Both men faced charges of fraud and conspiracy for allegedly inflating the company’s value before the sale. In a surprising turn of events, they were acquitted of all 15 charges by a San Francisco jury in June.

After leaving Autonomy in 2012, Chamberlain had gone on to work as chief operating officer for cybersecurity firm Darktrace and volunteered as finance director for Cambridge United football club.
