Plot Twist: Bob Lee Had A Secret Life, and Possibly An Affair with Alleged Killer’s Sister

In what at first seemed like a random street crime, the killing of Cash App founder Bob Lee is unfolding like a real-life Netflix drama. According to the Wall Street Journal, Lee was “casually sleeping” with Khazar Momeni, the younger sister of his alleged killer, Nima Momeni.

Lee and the younger Momeni were both reportedly part of the underground party circle called “The Lifestyle,” which partook in recreational drug use and casual sex. The older Momeni, who is not part of the group, allegedly confronted Lee about whether his sister was using drugs or doing anything inappropriate on the afternoon of April 3.

Hours later, he allegedly stabbed Lee with a four-inch kitchen knife, leaving him to bleed to death in a secluded part of Main Street in San Francisco.

Nima, who was arrested on April 13, is currently being held without bail on suspicion of murder. He is expected to appear in court for his arraignment and detainment hearing later in the month. His lawyer, Paula Canny, told the Journal that he plans to plead not guilty.

His sister’s lawyers, meanwhile, said in a written statement that “there are many rumors circulating around this case, many of them untrue,” and that “Ms. Momeni loves and supports her brother. What happened here is a tragedy, and Ms. Momeni is deeply saddened at the suffering of the Lee family as they deal with their terrible loss.”

Khazar is currently married to Dino Elyassnia, a prominent San Francisco plastic surgeon, but court documents note that “the relationship had possibly been in jeopardy.” Lee reportedly told his friends that he was casually sleeping with her. Lee had also previously dated one of the Nima’s ex-girlfriends.

Nima and Lee had come from the apartment Khazar shared with her husband before the incident. Authorities said that Khazar sent a message to Lee after he left with Nima: “Just wanted to make sure your (sic) doing ok Cause I know nima came wayyyyyy down hard on you And thank you for being such a classy man handling it with class Love you Selfish pricks.”

The Momenis were born in Iran into the Zoroastrian religion and were persecuted in their home country. The siblings fled with their mother, a dental assistant, in 1999. They went to the US on a Tourist visa and then shortly applied for asylum and settled in the Bay Area. The two were reportedly very close, with Nima “frequently following his sister, who goes by ‘Tina,’ around clubs or parties.”

While Lee’s friends recall a brilliant, generous, and loving “party boy” who unfortunately recently started hanging out with the wrong people. Nima’s friends paint a picture of a struggling tech consultant with a drug problem.

According to Mission Local, the Momenis’ father stayed in Iran when his wife and children left. One of Nima’s ex-girlfriends said that they may have fled because the father was abusive.

“He expressed extreme hate for his dad,” she said, adding that Nima told her that his father was physically abusive. “I definitely think that that created a monster.”
