Trey Parker and Matt Stone are renaming their show. Starting with Season 29, South Park becomes “South America,” the creators announced Tuesday, timed to needle US President Donald Trump over his own habit of renaming maps.
“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google,” the pair wrote in a joint statement, before working in a dig at their own parent company over its merger with Skydance.
Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico last year, and in August ordered Lake Ontario changed to Lake America amid an escalating trade fight with Canada, complete with new tariffs on both sides. New Mexico, he’s suggested, could be next.
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOGL) both updated their maps to reflect the new federal names for US users, even though plenty of users objected — the exact compliance Parker and Stone are mocking with their own thank-you.

The show’s parent company, Paramount Skydance (Nasdaq: PSKY), formed last year through an $8 billion merger that was still awaiting approval from Trump’s FCC when Paramount settled a lawsuit Trump had filed over a “60 Minutes” interview, paying $16 million. When Stephen Colbert called that settlement “a big fat bribe” on air, CBS canceled his show within days.
The rename follows Comedy Central handing South Park an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program over the weekend, and comes just ahead of the Season 29 premiere on September 16.
Season 27’s premiere put the president in a compromising scene with the devil, and Season 28 built an entire arc around him.
