The first assay results from a four hole drill program conducted at Sterling Metals’ (TSXV: SAG) Copper Road project, now known as the Soo Copper Project, have been released.
While the program may have been small in size, it was successful, with the first drill hole intersecting a continuous, bulk-tonnage copper-molybdenum-silver gold target. Referred to as the GFP Porphyry, mineralization was first intersected at a depth of 13.3 metres.
Highlights from the results include:
- MJ-25-01: 0.28% copper equivalent (0.21% copper, 0.008% molybdenum, 0.03 g/t gold and 1.1 g/t silver) over 482.8 metres from a depth of 13.3 metres
- Including 0.36% copper equivalent (0.26% copper, 0.011% molybdenum, 0.05 g/t gold and 1.4 g/t silver) over 359.3 metres
- Including 0.56% copper equivalent (0.38% copper, 0.021% molybdenum, 0.09 g/t gold and 2.4 g/t silver) over 75.2 metres
Copper mineralization is said to have been encountered through the entire length of the drill hole, with that mineralization associated with a multi-porphyry intrusive complex.
In addition to the aforementioned results, a 130 metre long interval of mafic tuff was found to contain intervals of bornite mineralization with chalcopyrite veining. Intervals here included 0.43% copper equivalent over 40.4 metres from a depth of 249.6 metres and 0.56% copper equivalent over 26.5 metres from a dpth of 347.0 metres.

“The discovery of this bornite-rich copper zone hosted by biotite-chlorite altered mafic tuffs that are intruded by a very well veined, early stage felsic porphyry are all critical to our understanding of the greater tonnage and copper grade potential for this porphyry system that previous explorers underestimated. This bodes well for any future mineral resource and mine concentrate products, which could feature high copper tenor and elevated gold content,” commented technical advisor Dr Neil O’Brien.
The drill program as a whole saw a total of 1,789 metres of drilling conducted, with assays from the remaining three holes still outstanding.
Sterling Metals last traded at $0.265 on the TSX Venture.
