Japan Mulls Building Next-Gen Nuclear Power Plants

In a major policy shift following the 2011 Fukushima disaster, the Japanese government is looking into constructing next-generation nuclear plants, in an effort to lower greenhouse emissions and ensure future energy supply for the country.

As first reported by Nikkei and later cited by Bloomberg, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to officially announce that the country will look into new building plans for next-generation reactors. The move comes after the government banned nearly all construction of new power plants in wake of the tsunami that destroyed the Fukushima nuclear reactors, instead allocating efforts towards restarting existing facilities.

Markets have been reacting positively to the news, sending uranium stocks soaring.
