Tehran has floated a new proposal to end the conflict with the US and Israel within a week — reopening the Strait of Hormuz and putting its nuclear program back on the negotiating table — according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, conditional on Washington easing military pressure first.
Araghchi made the announcement to reporters gathered at the UN General Assembly, saying the offer had already reached Washington through intermediary channels. He drew a comparison to a prior understanding the two countries struck in June.
“If certain conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz would be open,” he said. President Masoud Pezeshkian separately told Fox News his government isn’t pursuing a nuclear weapon at all, and would allow international inspectors in and reduce its enriched material stockpile if needed.

The two Iranian officials weren’t entirely aligned on timing. Araghchi said he’d prefer a deal to come together before the US midterm elections; Pezeshkian offered a different emphasis, saying Iran wouldn’t let America’s election schedule dictate its position.
Araghchi separately criticized Europe, singling out Germany for what he called a double standard — accepting alleged American breaches of international law while still blaming Tehran for the Strait’s instability.
The offer comes in the middle of an unusually crowded diplomatic week in New York, with Trump’s own summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping also unfolding at the UN this week. Tehran also signaled it would keep working
