Trump’s Defense of Bondi Over Epstein Files Sparks Unprecedented Backlash on Truth Social

President Donald Trump’s weekend defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi over the stalled Jeffrey Epstein investigation has been met with an unusual surge of criticism on his own platform, Truth Social. Public metrics scraped from the post attracted roughly 36,000 replies versus 32,000 likes and just 11,000 “re-truths” (shares).

It marks the first recorded instance in which negative engagement outweighs supportive signals among the MAGA core audience.

In one of his longest posts, Trump blasted that the so-called files were “written” by former President Barack Obama and former State Secretary Hillary Clinton, among others. He further dismissed continued attention to Epstein as a “waste of time and energy,” arguing the Justice Department should focus on voter fraud claims instead.

“LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB — SHE’S GREAT! The 2020 Election was Rigged and Stolen, and they tried to do the same thing in 2024 — That’s what she is looking into as AG, and much more,” Trump wrote.

The pivot stunned loyalists who had long believed Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Deputy Director Dan Bongino possessed a blockbuster “client list.” A memo released last week crushed those expectations, stating that a 300-gigabyte document review found “no incriminating client list” and reaffirmed that Epstein died by suicide in 2019.

Grassroots firebrands reacted swiftly. At Turning Point USA’s Tampa summit, some attendees chanted for Bondi’s resignation. On Truth Social, one user warned, “We want the ELITE PEDOS exposed! You promised us that,” while another called the statement “heartbreaking” for families of victims.

The engagement imbalance is noteworthy because Truth Social was designed as a safe harbor where Trump’s posts typically enjoy overwhelming approval. Data covering more than 1,000 posts since 2022 show Saturday’s entry is the only one in which replies outnumber both likes and shares, underscoring a rare fracture inside the MAGA coalition.

Critics accuse the president and Bondi of hypocrisy—campaigning on transparency but now labeling the very documents he once spotlighted as fabrications. Just five months ago, Bondi told Fox News the “list” was “sitting on my desk” waiting for a review.

Reports now indicate a heated Oval Office exchange with Bongino and speculation he may resign. Far-right personality Laura Loomer warned the about-face could undermine turnout in 2026.

Trump continues to highlight economic and border achievements, framing Epstein questions as distractions. Yet former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn cautioned that ignoring “abuse of children by elites” will complicate every other policy battle.

For many supporters, accountability on Epstein remains central to the movement’s moral narrative.
