Verses AI (CBOE: VERS) has successfully extended an exclusive, multi-year contract with a scientist key to the development of its Genius AI platform. Professor Karl Friston, a neuroscientist, has agreed to continue his work with the company in his role as Chief Scientist.

As part of the renewed exclusive contract, performance-based incentives have been included that recognize breakthroughs in research and development by Friston and his team, and the contributions to the Genius platform.

“Our work with Professor Friston has exceeded our expectations. His revolutionary theories on Active Inference have been central to the creation and continued development of Genius, as well as our broader cognitive computing initiatives. We believe the results from Genius have been nothing less than spectacular, some of which we previewed with the Mastermind exercise recently,” commented Verses CEO Gabriel Rene.

“The recent success in the Atari benchmarks further underscores the transformative potential of these systems, and we look forward to sharing more results in the coming weeks. We are thrilled to deepen this collaboration as we build on these milestones and drive innovation forward together.”

The contract extension follows last weeks announcement that Verses’ Genius platform successfully outperformed an OpenAI model in a tech challenge. The challenge saw the two models compete head to head in 100 games of Mastermind. Over 100 rounds, Genius outperformed the OpenAI model, completing the task 140 times faster and 5,000 times cheaper than the perceived leader in artificial intelligence.

Under the rules of the comparison, each model had ten guesses to crack the code within each game. The model’s were given a hint for each guess, with reasoning required to identify the missing part of the correct answer, requiring a total of six code colors to be correct to crack the code.

Friston’s extension follow his appointment as Chief Scientist back in December 2022. At the time of his appointment, Friston, a Professor of Neuroscience at University College London and Scientific Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging, was tasked with overseeing Verses’ advanced AI research and development. Friston was tapped for the role given his knowledge in the area of Active Inference, which is central to the development of the next generation AI tech being developed by Verses.

“VERSES’ steadfast dedication to pioneering the commercialization of Active Inference research is already yielding exceptional results. My continued commitment to VERSES reflects not only a shared belief in this ambitious vision, but also a dedication to advancing the groundbreaking work we have undertaken together. I eagerly anticipate contributing to this mission in the years to come — as we aim to shape the future of intelligent ecosystems,” commented Friston on his contract extension.

Verses AI last traded at $1.13 on the CBOE.
