“It is 100% true”— on the same day that a federal judge determined that former US President Donald Trump likely committed several felonies in his bid to return to power on January 6, Trump released an official statement that claimed he made a hole-in-one in Florida.
Unfortunately for the “many people who are asking,” there was no footage of Trump making the hole-in-one, just one where he leisurely walks to the hole to retrieve the ball.
While there is no documentation that proves the hole-in-one is “100% true,” Snopes says that the event is unlikely but plausible. Trump, who has gained notoriety—and the nickname “Pele”—for cheating on the course, claims to have made the hole-in-one on hole 7, which is a par 3. A par 3, compared to par 4 or 5, is shorter, but according to figures from Golf Magazine, the probability of a hole-in-one on a par 3 is about one in 3,500 rounds. So, yeah.
On the day that Trump didn’t brag about winning his own tournament, Judge David Carter ruled that “based on the evidence the court finds that it is more likely than not that President Trump and Dr Eastman dishonestly conspired to obstruct the joint session of Congress on January 6, 2021.”
The ruling orders Eastman to turn over hundreds of emails to the House select committee investigating the Capitol riots. The lawyer had initially refused to turn over these emails even after a subpoena from the select committee, claiming that since he acted as counsel to Trump, the emails were protected by the attorney-client privilege.
