Bloomberg LP Announces Major Leadership Shifts: Vlad Kliatchko Named CEO, Mark Carney to Chair New Board

Bloomberg LP, the financial information and media company, is undergoing significant leadership changes, as revealed in an internal memo sent by founder Michael Bloomberg and reported by Reuters

Vlad Kliatchko, who has been heading the product division, is set to take the helm as the new chief executive. This move reinforces the company’s core focus on prioritizing its products, notably the terminal, which has been pivotal since its inception. The announcement also states that Mark Carney, former governor of the Bank of England, will assume the role of chair for the company’s new board of directors.

JP Zammitt is slated to become president, while Patti Roskill will assume the position of chief financial officer. The company intends to establish a fresh board, with new appointments joining and existing members transitioning into emeritus roles, as outlined in the memo.

Notably, Carney is currently a United Nations special envoy on climate action and finance, and Bloomberg highlighted their collaboration on climate finance initiatives. The memo emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering internal mobility and grooming the next generation of leaders.

Bloomberg, who founded the company in 1981, clarified that despite the changes, he remains dedicated to the company and is not stepping away. He expressed that he has never been tied to a specific title within the organization and will continue to be known simply as “Mike.”

Mike returned to the company in 2014 assuming the role of chief executive from Daniel Doctoroff, after his 2002-2013 tenure as the mayor of New York City.

While the company declined to provide further comments on the matter, this significant reshuffle in leadership marks a notable transition for the company as it continues to evolve in the financial and media landscape.
