CTV News Dismisses Two Staff Members Over Altered Poilievre Video Clip
CTV News has terminated the employment of two staff members following an investigation into an altered video clip of Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre that aired in a recent national news report. The network announced this decision in a statement posted on social media, citing a breach of editorial policies and practices.
The controversy arose from a news segment that first aired on Sunday, which included a manipulated clip of Poilievre during a media scrum. According to the Conservative Party, the edited clip gave the misleading impression that Poilievre was proposing a non-confidence motion to eliminate the Liberal government’s dental care program.
In the original footage, Poilievre stated, “That’s why it’s time to put forward a motion for a carbon tax election.” However, the broadcasted version only included the phrase, “That’s why we need to put forward a motion,” immediately following a reporter’s comments about the dental care program’s uncertain future.
Poilievre has strongly criticized the report, calling it “extremely dishonest” and “fraudulent.” He also directed accusations at Bell, CTV’s parent company, suggesting without evidence that the news team was acting on behalf of CEO Mirko Bibic.
CTV’s statement did not directly address Poilievre’s criticisms but offered an unreserved apology for the report and the false impression it created. The network emphasized its commitment to providing accurate, fair, and independent coverage.
The identities of the dismissed staff members or provided further details about the investigation process were not disclosed.

Barbara is full of it. Over the past 3 years, Bell Media has been firing their most experienced journalists and hiring juniors and activists in their newsroom. CTV is no longer relevant and has compromised both their journalistic integrity together with any form of independence. For years, we’ve seen CBC and the Star as Liberal ambassadors. CTV has degenerated into the same quagmire. Today, the public is disengaging from these corrupt or compromised new source. They’re not important! Barbara is entitled to her opinion. Too bad it’s been poisoned by years of this nonsense for an unimportant and almost useless media.
Surely, at the very least, very sloppy editing and deserving of finding better editors. At the worst, a manipulation that was intended to be misleading as suggested. It is just ironic to me that the the victim of this manipulation is the worst offender, day after day, in his comments and in his online presence, of manipulating words and content to steer a narrative. From his video (now deleted) depicting Canada with clips of anywhere but Canada, to him calling our government (duly elected) to a “regime”, this man literally got a taste of his own medicine and man was he hopping mad. Can dish it but he can’t take it. It is okay for PP to manipulate content but not anyone else. Good for CTV to do the right thing. Now will PP ever do the right thing? Will the Conservative followers see how this is the same thing? Many are wrapped up in the jargon of conspiracy. I tried to converse in that space….but sadly I was dismissed because I was called out for having a degree, then for my inability to use spellcheck etc. I really do struggle with that! So it goes. Disheartening.
