President Donald Trump posted a video on Truth Social showing an AI version of himself in a white medical coat with a stethoscope, introducing himself as “Dr. Trump” and offering help for “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a phrase widely used by Trump allies to dismiss intense criticism of him.
The clip opens with Trump asking, “Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with TDS?” before promising a “treatment plan.”
At the very least, it is a test case for how a sitting president can use synthetic media to mock real public figures, blur parody with impersonation, and normalize deepfake-style political content before the law has caught up.
Its punchline is simple. Trump prescribes turning off “fake news,” saying prayers, and drinking Diet Coke. Its political function is less simple. The video uses AI-generated “patients” to portray Trump critics as emotionally unstable figures who improve after accepting his advice.

The clip includes AI-generated likenesses of celebrities who have criticized Trump, including Rosie O’Donnell, John Leguizamo, Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Edward Norton, and Julia Roberts. In that version, the fake De Niro says he “couldn’t eat” and “couldn’t sleep,” while the fake Roberts says she feels she has “aged 20 years.”
That matters because the video moves beyond generic cartooning. It appears to place recognizable public figures inside a mock testimonial format, making them deliver lines they did not say. No one from the celebrities has said they consented to the use of their likenesses, and no public legal action tied to this clip had been reported as of publication.
But, the legal exposure is unclear. Right-of-publicity law in the US is largely state-based, and protections vary widely because there is no single federal publicity-right statute. The doctrine generally concerns unauthorized commercial use of a person’s name, image, likeness, voice, or other identity markers. Political satire and commentary can also trigger First Amendment defenses, making any claim fact-specific.
Trump has repeatedly leaned into AI imagery as a personal and political branding tool. The Daily Beast placed the video in a longer pattern, citing earlier AI content from Trump’s account, including an image of Trump in a healer-like pose, a deleted video involving Barack and Michelle Obama, and a “King Trump” video aimed at protesters.
