EMP Metals (CSE: EMPS) is set to move into lithium production, with the company this morning announcing an agreement with Saltworks Technologies for the establishment of a lithium demonstration plant.
Referred to as project Aurora, Saltworks has been engaged to develop, build, and operate a demonstration plant for lithium refining at EMP’s Viewfield project, which is found in Saskatchewan. The plant is being treated as a follow-on to a previously conducted pilot program as the company moves to a commercialization phase.
The demonstration plant is expected to process ten cubic metres of raw lithium brine per day into refined and concentrated lithium chloride. The plant is expected to be wellhead connected to EMP’s Viewfield horizontal well. Saltworks is also expected to upgrade an existing lithium conversion plant in Richmond, BC, to continuously process concentrated lithium chloride into lithium carbonate.
The effort as a whole is said to have the primary objective of reducing costs for lithium extraction, while optimizing what will become a modular hub and spoke lithium extraction and refining model. As part of the effort, Saltworks is also expected to advance a full scale design for a 3,000 tonne per year modular refinery.
As part of the agreement, Saltworks is to be issued 2.5 million share purchase warrants of EMP with an exercise price of $0.35 per share and an expiry of five years.
EMP Metals last traded at $0.25 on the CSE.
