After being put under medical supervision earlier this week, the Queen passed away Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle in Scotland aged 96.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” Buckingham Palace announced. Her eldest son, Prince Charles, along with his wife Camilla, have automatically become the head of state for the monarchy’s 14 Commonwealth realms.

Since taking the throne in 1952 at age 25, she endured profound moments in her family life, including her father’s death, divorces of three of her four children, the death of Princess Diana, as well as the passing of her husband Prince Philip in 2021.
