Belgian Dad Fakes Death for TikTok Clout

A Belgian man named David Baerten executed an elaborate prank on his loved ones by faking his own death and surprising them at his funeral. The 45-year-old TikToker, accompanied by his wife and children, orchestrated the hoax as a means of testing who truly cared about him.

The news of Baerten’s supposed demise was spread through social media, with one of his children posting a heartfelt tribute in his honor. The post read, “Rest in peace, Daddy. I will never stop thinking about you… We love you! We will never forget you.” The emotional message garnered attention from family and friends, who gathered near the city of Liege for what they believed would be a somber occasion.

As mourners donned black attire, anticipation filled the air. However, their grief quickly turned into confusion and astonishment when Baerten arrived at the scene, not in a hearse, but by stepping out of a helicopter. With a camera crew in tow, he jovially greeted his bewildered mourners, exclaiming, “Cheers to you all, welcome to my funeral.”

While some attendees were relieved to discover Baerten was alive and well, rushing to embrace him, others remained in the parking lot, unsure of how to react.

A few individuals expressed their displeasure with the prank, prompting Baerten to justify his actions. He explained that he felt unappreciated by his family and friends, who often excluded him from gatherings. The elaborate ruse was intended to teach them a life lesson and emphasize the importance of cherishing loved ones while they are still alive.

Baerten, who boasts a substantial TikTok following, claimed that the prank had elicited responses from some individuals who had previously neglected him. He saw it as a victory, stating, “Those who didn’t come did contact me to meet up. So in a way, I did win.”
