Buenaventura, a Peruvian mining company, has halted mining operations at its Julcani mine amid worsening anti-government protests.

According to a company statement, a group of protesters vandalized its silver mine located in the province of Angaraes, Huancavelica, and threatened the workers and stole some of the company’s belongings. “In order to ensure the integrity of the workers, the Julcani Unit has begun the demobilization of all personnel and has suspended its operations until security conditions are adequate,” Buenaventura said.
