Toyota to Launch Sport Crossover EV with China’s BYD

Toyota introduced its electric Sport Crossover concept in Europe on Monday, a collaboration with China’s BYD. The sleek fastback EV, set to hit the market in 2025, was initially unveiled at Auto Shanghai in April.

Positioned as a “style hero,” Toyota aims to attract first-time EV buyers with the crossover’s unique design, offering a stylish alternative to conventional SUVs. Featuring five doors and ample space for passengers and cargo, the concept emphasizes a distinctive fastback style.

Toyota and BYD have previously collaborated on the bZ3 electric sedan in China. The Sport Crossover is expected to share a similar setup, utilizing BYD’s Blade LFP batteries, electric motor, and control system.

Toyota plans to launch five new EVs in Europe by 2026, with the Sport Crossover being a key player in this lineup. The automaker aims for 20% of European sales to be electric vehicles by 2026, surpassing 250,000 units annually, as part of its commitment to achieving complete carbon neutrality by 2040.
