US Navy Rejects Iranian Claims of Missile Strike on Warship Near Jask Island

The US Navy has firmly denied claims by Iranian state media that two missiles struck one of its warships near Jask Island, escalating tensions in an already volatile region. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that no American vessels have been hit, directly contradicting a report from Iran’s Fars News Agency.

The Iranian outlet alleged that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted the US ship after it ignored warnings in the strategically critical waters off Jask Island, a key point near the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM, however, dismissed the assertion as baseless, emphasizing that US forces remain active in the area under Project Freedom, which includes enforcing a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

The command’s statement was clear: no damage, no impact, no confirmation of any attack.

This clash of narratives comes amid heightened friction between Washington and Tehran, with the Strait of Hormuz serving as a flashpoint for military and economic pressures. The US has maintained a robust naval presence in the region to secure vital shipping lanes, through which a significant portion of global oil supply transits. Iran, facing stringent sanctions and blockades, has repeatedly warned against foreign military activities near its coastline.

Market observers note that such incidents, even if unverified, can rattle energy markets and heighten geopolitical risk premiums on oil prices. Brent crude futures ticked up 3.4% in early trading following the initial Fars News report, reflecting investor unease over further potential disruptions in the Gulf. While the US denial may temper immediate concerns, the underlying tensions show no sign of abating.

CENTCOM’s ongoing operations under Project Freedom aim to curb Iran’s maritime activities, a mission that has drawn sharp criticism from Tehran. The blockade, coupled with periodic military exercises, continues to stoke regional unrest. As of the latest deployment figures, the US Navy has maintained at least five warships in the vicinity of the Strait, underscoring the strategic priority of the area.
