Bombardier Inc. (TSX: BBD.B) will construct a 126,000-square-foot production center in Dorval as part of a $100 million expansion aimed at meeting surging customer demand for business aircraft.
The business jet manufacturer plans to complete the facility by late 2027. Quebec’s government will provide $35 million in repayable financing through its ESSOR program to support the project.
David Murray, executive vice president for manufacturing, IT and Bombardier’s Operational Excellence System, said the investment positions the company to meet growing global demand. “As we expand our manufacturing capacity, we’re positioning ourselves to keep up with global demand and solidify our position at the top of the business aviation industry,” Murray stated in the announcement.
Strong order momentum drives the expansion. Bombardier’s backlog reached $16.6 billion in the third quarter of 2025—a five-year peak—after the company secured orders for 50 aircraft with 70 additional options in the second quarter. The firm achieved a 2.3 book-to-bill ratio during that period.
The Dorval site will complement existing operations where Bombardier assembles Challenger aircraft. The company’s Mississauga location handles Global jet production. Bombardier has not disclosed specific output targets for the new facility.
Recent milestones include the December 2025 delivery of the Global 8000, which Transport Canada and U.S. regulators certified as the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde. The jet reaches a maximum speed of Mach 0.95.
JETNET iQ projects manufacturers will ship 820 business jets in 2025, marking the first year since 2019 that deliveries exceed 800 aircraft.
Christine Fréchette, Quebec’s economy minister, emphasized the aerospace sector’s importance to the province. The industry generated $22 billion in sales and supported 43,000 jobs in 2024, according to Fréchette. She said the Bombardier project will create hundreds of skilled positions.
Other recent investments include a California component plant and a $400 million Toronto facility that opened in 2024 for Global jet production. Bombardier’s global workforce totals 18,000 employees across facilities in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
