David Elsley, President and CEO of Cardiol Therapeutics (NASDAQ: CRDL) (TSX: CRDL), joins us to discuss an unexpected development in the company’s Phase III MAVERIC trial of CardiolRx, an investigational oral treatment for recurrent pericarditis.
The trial reached its original enrollment target ahead of schedule, but fewer disease recurrences than anticipated have prompted plans to add more patients. David explains how the expansion supports the statistical power needed to evaluate the treatment. The study remains blinded, so the observation does not yet establish that CardiolRx is responsible.
We also discuss earlier clinical findings, the differences between Cardiol’s approach and Novo Nordisk’s recent cardiovascular trials, and why David believes investors are misjudging the cardiac inflammation sector. He outlines the planned mid-2027 trial readout, the steps toward an FDA application if results support it, and the company’s expected cash runway into Q1 2028.
