A key figure in Alberta’s separatist movement says he was promised US$500 million to ease the oil-rich province out of Canada. Dennis Modry, former CEO of the Alberta Prosperity Project, told supporters that “senior US administrative officials just a couple steps away from the president” opened an April meeting in Washington by declaring they recognize and support Alberta becoming a sovereign nation for the first time.
Modry claims the officials sketched out a “transition loan” that he would only draw down on as necessary as they work with the US to transition from a province to a country, alongside a one-for-one currency swap in which Washington would “take every Alberta citizen’s Canadian dollar and then exchange it for one US dollar.”
This is a very serious revelation. People have been wondering who has been bankrolling Alberta separatists. It looks like there’s a MAGA connection. Trump officials are said to have promised $500 million to help transition Alberta to the 51st state. https://t.co/4ul7nyTqbx

No documentary evidence of the offer has surfaced. Modry himself concedes that American recognition as the 51st state “isn’t currently on the table” without a successful sovereignty referendum.
The remarks came at a mid-June rally in Red Deer sponsored by the America Fund—an outfit openly lobbying for Alberta to join the United States. Organizers praised President Donald Trump’s deportation record and held up Immigration and Customs Enforcement as the model for an independent Alberta’s border policy.
Speakers at the rally framed mass immigration—not Ottawa’s energy policy—as the existential threat. Take Back Alberta founder David Parker warned that current intake levels will turn Canada into “a failed state,” while Alberta Republicans leader Cameron Davies blasted Premier Danielle Smith’s plan to grow Red Deer’s population as “leftist agenda policy.”
Smith, who once branded separatism “not on my radar,” has lately echoed US Republican talking points on immigration and federal overreach. Modry reportedly told that Smith said she would “get out in front” of the movement within six months.
“We’re gonna give her six months… but I left her with this thought,” Modry allegedly said, as recorded by Rebel News. “You can win with us. You can’t win without us.”
According to Modry…

When he asked how long until Danielle Smith started leading the separatism parade…
She said, "Give me six months".
And then he reminded her of his "or else".#abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/I69UYspvjO
