Are Russia and Iran Using Social Media Bots to Divide Trump’s MAGA Base?

Social media bots are pretending to be die-hard Trump supporters while secretly trying to tear the MAGA base apart from the inside, the Network Contagion Research Institute claimed in findings first reported by the New York Post.

The research institute found that the artificial accounts amplified “false flag” narratives and spread disinformation designed to discredit President Donald Trump and his allies, while working to undermine the movement from within.

Researchers tracked hundreds of thousands of interactions from the bot accounts between May and June. The fake profiles successfully posed as Trump supporters while advancing foreign agendas.

However, bots or not, Trump’s stance on Iran has exposed a huge rift in the MAGA base. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene recently warned Trump that intervention in Iran “is going to fracture” the MAGA movement, stating that “Americans are very sick and tired of” foreign wars and want to focus on domestic issues like “cheap gas, groceries, bills, and housing.”

In a recent interview, Tucker Carlson picked a fight with Ted Cruz over Iran. He also wrote in his newsletter that Trump was “complicit in the act of war” regarding Israel’s strikes on Iran and advocating that the US should “drop Israel” and “let them fight their own wars.”

When Trump called Carlson “kooky” on Truth Social, Greene rushed to defend the former Fox News host, posting that “Tucker Carlson is one of my favorite people” and that “foreign wars/intervention/regime change put America last.”
