Delta Offers $30,000 to Each Passenger on Toronto Crash Flight
Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) has offered $30,000 to each passenger aboard Flight 4819 that crashed and flipped during landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday.
The airline confirmed Wednesday that all 80 people (76 passengers and four crew members) on board survived when the Minneapolis-originating flight rolled over and landed upside down, losing its right wing in the process.
Twenty-one passengers were hospitalized following the incident, with all but one released by Wednesday morning. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
A Delta spokesman said via email that the compensation offer comes with “no strings attached and does not affect rights.” The announcement coincides with news that some passengers have retained Canadian law firm Rochon Genova.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian, speaking on CBS Wednesday, described the flight crew as “experienced” but provided few additional details about the incident as the investigation continues.
The damaged aircraft, which had been blocking Toronto Pearson’s two longest runways, was removed Wednesday evening from Canada’s busiest airport.
